Overview: In the latest Devil Wears Prada novel, we are reunited with Emily Charlton, who is on sabbatical from her high-profile celebrity image consulting job to meet up with her friends Miriam and Karolina in Greenwich, Connecticut.
When Karolina, a supermodel-turned-senator’s wife, is arrested for a DUI that is sketchy from the start, the three women unite to save her reputation while navigating the unfamiliar and alcohol-infused social scene that is Greenwich.
A destined-to-be bestseller, When Life Gives You Lululemons takes us on a journey that comically reminds us money cannot always buy happiness (though it can buy a great wardrobe!).
#Novelthoughts: I got to preview an advanced copy of this book and I am so incredibly excited for it to be released next week so we can all gossip about it together! Ms. Weisberger made a great call by shifting her focus from Andy (like she did in both the original and the sequel Revenge Wears Prada) and finally putting the spotlight on Emily. Though the over-the-top world of Greenwich is only slightly more relatable than Miranda Priestly’s version in Manhattan, it’s a refreshing change of location for all of the madness that ensues. My thoughts below:
Recommendation: Move it to the top of your summer reading list. Despite the slightly-tacky name, When Life Gives You Lululemons is relevant, memorable, and thoroughly entertaining. It doesn’t follow the normal sequence of “introduction-> buildup-> more buildup-> climax-> resolution,” but rather, starts out with several major events and then builds upon them by sprinkling in happenings throughout. Though it’s a quick and easy read, Ms. Weisberger’s knack for detailing the lives of the rich and the famous makes this book not just enjoyable, but also incredibly delightful.
